Aitken College Students Visit SMAN 54 Jakarta in Cultural Exchange through BRIDGE School Partnerships Program
On 21st June 2024, eleven students and three teachers from Aitken College, Victoria, visited SMAN 54 in Jakarta as part of their study tour to Indonesia. This visit was a significant moment in the ongoing BRIDGE partnership between the two schools, which began in 2023. The program provided Australian students with a valuable opportunity to practice their Bahasa Indonesia skills and engage in a cultural exchange with their Indonesian peers.
The students participated in various group activities that helped build friendships and improve language skills. They also enjoyed learning traditional games played during Indonesia's Independence Day celebrations, "17 Agustus-an."
Steve Rogers from Aitken College reflected on the experience, saying,
"Our visit to SMAN 54 during our Indonesia tour was fantastic. While the students enjoyed connecting through various fun activities, it was the informal follow-up chats and small group interactions that truly impressed me. The students were reluctant to leave, and I was concerned we might have overstayed our welcome. However, the teachers in Jakarta were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome."
The partnership between the two schools is set to continue, with plans for a professional learning session involving the Media and Art teacher from Aitken College. Representatives from the Regional Office, Department of Education DKI Jakarta Province, also attended the visit, underscoring the significance of this cultural exchange.
