Since 2008, the Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE School Partnerships Program has established 263 school partnerships and provided professional learning to 987 teachers across Australia and Indonesia.

 

This program is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australian Government and implemented by Asialink Education, University of Melbourne. 


The BRIDGE Program Goal is to support stronger people-to-people relationships between Australia and Indonesia through enhancing teacher skills and mutual understanding.

The Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE School Partnerships Program, provides teacher professional learning online and in person, delivers reciprocal in-country immersion programs, and connects students through global classroom activities.

What's included

  • BRIDGE school partnership: Asialink Education matches Australian and Indonesian schools following the school application process in both countries.

  • Virtual Welcome Ceremony: Official announcement of 2027 school partnerships and participating teachers meet.

  • Partnership meetings: Asialink Education facilitates partnership meetings and supports communication between teachers.

  • Professional learning: Hybrid and in-person professional learning delivered throughout the BRIDGE Program. 

  • Australia Immersion Program: Indonesian teachers travel to Australia to participate in cultural immersion in a school visit and homestay program with their school partnership. Australian teachers participate in a three-day cultural immersion program with partners in Melbourne prior to hosting the five-day school visit and homestay program. 

  • Indonesia Immersion Program: Australian teachers travel to Indonesia to participate in a three-day cultural immersion program and five-day school visit program with BRIDGE partner.

  • Global classroom activities: Teachers and students collaborate through joint learning activities. 

  • BRIDGE Grants: Alumni schools can apply for grants to support partnership activities.

  • Alumni network: Ongoing access to resources and opportunities.

Eligibility

​Ten Australian schools will be selected for the 2027 BRIDGE Program. This includes seven new schools and three alumni schools whose partnership has become inactive.

School eligibility requirements 

  • Be a registered primary or secondary school in Queensland or Victoria.

    Nominate one (and a maximum of two) teacher to represent their school and engage with the matched Indonesian partner educators for two years and;

  • Commit to hosting two Indonesian partner teachers within the school community for the duration of the six day school visit/homestay program.

Teacher eligibility requirements 

  • Be a qualified teacher in Australia (hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent);

  • Employed at the applying school (ongoing or fixed-term contract);

  • Two-year commitment, including participation in professional learning workshops, reciprocal immersion experiences and school partnership collaborative activities and

  • Endorsed by the school principal/leader to participate in the BRIDGE program;

  1. Describe your school’s goals for participating and the benefits you expect to gain from the Australia–Indonesia BRIDGE School Partnerships Program;

  2. Describe how your school will demonstrate sustained commitment to partnering with a school in Indonesia as part of the BRIDGE program;

  3. Identify one way in which your school can promote collaboration with a prospective Indonesian partner school and;

  4. Describe any initiatives, activities, or priorities for your school in promoting Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (e.g., school programs that support students with disabilities, demographic profile, professional learning programs, collaboration with allied health workers, respectful relationships programs)

Please submit the three sections of the application form (including a separate Section 3 for each nominated teacher). Ensure you have addressed all criteria before submission.
